What is the difference between a property with ManagedWiFi and a property that has just Ethernet ports also known as Bring your own router or Ethernet Hot Jack?
Many properties that DojoNetworks services today have what is known as ManagedWiFi. At these properties we have installed wireless access points at the property (typically an access point in every apartment (although not always) and also in common areas). At a property like this you will see a WiFi network being broadcast -- typically in the form '[Property Name] Dojo'. You would receive a password to connect to the WiFi network in your email and via text message prior to moving in. If you didn't receive a password you can call our support line and if your phone number matches your account you can have it texted to you automatically (814) 308-0817 or you can email us at support@dojonetworks.com. Most of our ManagedWiFi properties also have at least one Ethernet port that you can connect devices that need hardwired connectivity although that is not always the case depending on how the original developer installed the wiring. Some properties, unfortunately are built only with WiFi connectivity. In a ManagedWiFi property we do not allow you to connect your own Router to our network as it creates WiFi (RF) interference which will affect your performance and that of your neighbors. When you live at a ManagedWiFi property you can roam around the property and stay on your own private network. So you can be at a friends apartment and stay connected to your secure WiFi even though you are in another apartment or common space.
If your property is Bring your own router there will be an Ethernet port where you would connect a router that you either purchase or rent from DojoNetworks. The Ethernet ports are typically in the living room although sometimes at certain properties they are in bedrooms. Usually there is only one ethernet port per apartment although in some cases there are Ethernet ports in bedrooms as well. When looking for a router we suggest purchasing WiFi6 or WiFi7 routers today. Do not purchase or try to use a Cable Modem/Combo router as they are not compatible.
