How do I setup my own SSID or Wireless Network? (2.4 GHz & 5 GHz)

In a ManagedWiFi building, you typically don't need your own SSID, however, in certain circumstances they are needed.

There are pros and cons to setting up a custom SSID for your apartment.

The downside is that it can cause network overhead and network inefficiency causing some things to be slower. Also, you lose out on network coverage from other nearby Access Points. Sometimes, areas of your apartment can be serviced by access points outside of your apartment. Also, if your access point loses connectivity or fails for some reason, you loose internet access.

The benefits of setting up a custom SSID are that sometimes older devices won't work on a ManagedWiFi network, and you can set up a network that uses only 2.4 GHz or only 5 GHz, which will work with those devices.

If you set up a custom SSID you won't lose the property-wide SSID. This will be in addition to the property-wide network.

First, you need to log in to your customer portal. Find directions here: How do I use the customer portal?

Once you have logged in to the customer portal, you need to navigate to the MY WIRELESS NETWORKS tab.

Click on the CREATE A WIRELESS NETWORK button.

Once you create the network, it will take about five minutes to appear. Then you should be able to connect to the network.

In some cases, this feature is not enabled. If you need to add a custom network and the My Wireless Networks tab is not showing on your customer portal, please open a ticket with support by emailing support@dojonetworks.com, and the support team will be able to add the custom network.
